Modern Farmhouse Black & White Shower Bathroom Reveal

Builders Wife Blog

I am so excited to share this final bathroom design with you! I’d say that this was one of my “riskier” designs in our home because it was my first time experiencing with black grout – but I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out once all completed! All the links for all of the products used will be at the bottom of this post.

Pre-build, I knew I wanted to design one “black & white” bathroom with a black circle mirror – simple dreams, right? With the location of this bathroom being right off of the kitchen & living areas, and having just a shower with no shower/tub combo I knew immediately this would be the one!

To design this bathroom, I started by selecting the black hexagon floor tile in the 3″ size. You

shape) but I have found that the larger the individual shower floor tile is, the easier it is to clean! For the grout, I went with contrasting colors in this bathroom – so for the black floor tile, I went with the Mapei grout in Avalanche. Oddly enough, the color “white” in the Mapei® family isn’t as white as their “Avalanche”… go figure! For the walls, I selected a basic 3×6 white subway tile with Mapei’s® black grout. (Black IS actually black, unlike the white situation!)

With the size of our bathroom, we were able to fit in a 56″ vanity which wouldn’t be labeled as a “standard size” vanity. This is something you might want to consider while designing your bathroom because, with larger vanities, it can be more difficult to find a mirror that fits in your space. With the 56″ vanity, I found a mirror that measures 37″ across and it fits perfectly over the vanity.

The plumbing fixtures were an easy selection as, of course, would be nothing other than matte black! I selected the same bathroom faucets throughout the entire house, makes it easier for your builder! I did like the Moen® Align or Moen® Gibson sink faucets, but I was able to find one that was SO similar on Amazon and about a 1/3 of the price and had amazing reviews!

With sink faucets, the plumbing is all located underneath the sink – so if anything were to go wrong with my Amazon find, it would be a fairly simple fix. Unlike the showerheads, where all the plumbing is behind the drywall and tile, so we did go with the Moen® brand name for these fixtures.

Next up was lighting! With my larger vanity size, I went with a 4-light vanity light fixture, and wouldn’t have gone any smaller. The 4-light provides enough light for the space!

The final touches in our modern farmhouse bathroom were the towel & toilet paper holders, and of course, my matte black toilet flush knob – which were both budget-friendly Amazon finds! For the towel bars, it is my recommendation not to go with anything that has less than a 20″ space. Meaning the space you actually have to hang your towels – not the total measurement of the rod. This fits two towels nicely. My husband probably thought I was nuts, but yes, I even changed the toilet tank lever. The stock toilet lever was silver, and just didn’t fit in the room – for less than $11 and only a couple minute job, the look was complete!

I hope you enjoyed an in-depth look into our modern farmhouse black & white shower bathroom – and I hope it inspires you to do a “risky” design in your own home!
