Best Interior Home White Paint Selections
Builders Wife Blog
White is white is white, right? WRONG. Who knew there were so many different shades of WHITE. My husband must have thought I was nuts when I requested eight different samples of white to try on the walls before I committed.
I believe that white is the new gray. To achieve the “modern farmhouse” look – I think more and more people are turning to white instead of the traditional grays we are so used to seeing. Good-bye Revere Pewter, you treated me well – but I am excited to have a fresh clean modern farmhouse look with white.
Let me save you time, and go over what I learned in my trials of finding the best interior white paint.
The paint chips you see in the stores lie. Do not go to the store, pick a sample paint chip, tape it to your wall, and then select one. I promise, promise, you will be disappointed. That sample that is labeled “incredible white” is in fact NOT incredibly white.
Narrow your options down to 3-4 selections and BUY ACTUAL SAMPLES! We selected [Sherwin Williams] Snowbound, First Star, Pure White, and Drift of Mist – and painted them on our interior walls and waited for them to completely dry before giving any opinions
Holy looks nothing like the sample chip I had in my hand from the store. Some you will notice looked a lot gray, and others almost had a hint of peachy/tan.

Here is my opinion on each of the samples we selected:
Sherwin Williams Pure White. This was an actual white, however, we installed crown molding throughout our home and did want to create some contrast between the walls and the crown molding. If you’re looking for a basic, clean clean, white. Pure White isn’t a bad option.
Sherwin Williams Drift of Mist. How this even looked white in the store blows my mind. After painting it on the wall, it was SUPER gray. Wasn’t the white look we were going for.
Sherwin Williams Snowbound. You know I saved the best for last. This was the top favorite the entire time, and I think I tried to find one to beat it – but nothing could. It’s a crisp, clean white – with the slightest touch of gray. I knew it would give me the modern farmhouse look I was going for, with giving us just the smallest contrast from the crown molding.
Sherwin Williams Incredible White. Speaking of trying to beat Snowbound, I had to get just ONE MORE SAMPLE – to just MAKE SURE, right? I think I selected this one just trusting the name alone, I thought it would be incredibly white. This was our LEAST favorite in the mix. Once it was painted on the wall, it screamed peachy beige.
After the job was finished, and we saw the final product, we were super happy with our perfect interior white paint selection. I am positive that Sherwin Williams Snowbound will not disappoint if you’re trying to achieve that same open, clean, crisp feel in your home.
Good luck, and happy paint hunting! Hope this helps narrow down your selections!
